Professor by Special Appointment in Business Ethics and Ecological Sustainability from a Humanist Perspective. Five-year appointment in collaboration with the Socrates Foundation and the University of Groningen. The position contributes to education and research of societal relevance and stimulates collaboration between faculties.
Job requirements
- PhD in a relevant field, preferably philosophy, with expertise in business ethics and ecological sustainability.
- Demonstrable research reputation or relevant professional experience in a field relevant to the chair.
- Experience as an excellent teacher, with a passion for educational innovation and experience with diverse student groups.
- Inspiring academic leadership qualities with a coaching, inclusive approach and an eye for diversity and collaboration.
- Ability to integrate humanist values openly and non-dogmatically into education, research, and public discussions.
- Willingness to collaborate with colleagues in the participating faculties and the Centre for Philosophy, Politics, and Economics.
Tasks
- Developing and providing education in business ethics and ecological sustainability from a humanist perspective, with attention to transdisciplinarity and innovation.
- Offering an elective course for Master's students, accessible to students from various faculties and external interested parties, focused on current normative issues.
- Conducting research related to societal challenges, with a focus on corporate responsibility, stakeholders, sustainable entrepreneurship, ecological justice, human rights, climate, biodiversity, and finance.
- Actively contribute to the public debate on the responsibility of companies regarding sustainability issues and the pursuit of societal impact.
- Fulfilling the usual duties of a professor in the fields of teaching and research.

Description of the organization
The University of Groningen conducts interdisciplinary research and education focused on academic challenges and societal questions. Knowledge sharing and collaboration with businesses, governments, and civil society organizations are important.
The Faculty of Philosophy is a small-scale faculty with approximately 90 staff members and 480 students, known for openness, accessibility, and an informal culture. The faculty focuses on both fundamental and applied research and is organized into three departments: Theoretical Philosophy, History of Philosophy and Ethics, and Social and Political Philosophy.
The endowed chair is embedded within the Department of Ethics, Social and Political Philosophy and the Business Ethics & Corporate Sustainability section of the Faculty of Economics and Business, and collaborates with the interfaculty Centre for Philosophy, Politics, and Economics. There is extensive expertise in the fields of organizational ethics, feminist philosophy, philosophy and policy, financial ethics, and sustainable banking and finance.
The Socrates Foundation promotes the exchange of ideas on fundamental social and cultural issues affecting modern humanisms, and supports scholarly reflection on the foundations of humanism.
