Research into the sustainable reuse of industrial automation systems and components. You analyze systems and develop assessment methods and test procedures for reuse. Required: affinity with mechatronics, basic programming experience, and an interest in sustainability.
Description
Research into the sustainable reuse of industrial automation systems and components. The aim is to develop a methodology for assessment, reuse, and redeployment, resulting in extended lifespan and reduced environmental impact.
Job requirements
- HBO or university level.
- Affinity with mechatronic systems or industrial automation.
- Interest in sustainability and circular economy.
- Basic programming experience (e.g. Python or C#).
- Interested in data analysis or condition monitoring.
- Prerequisite: knowledge of sensors, robotics, or drive technology.
Tasks
- Analyzing existing automation systems and components (such as robots, actuators, and transport systems).
- Mapping out possible forms of reuse and strategies such as direct reuse, refurbishment, and remanufacturing.
- Developing a methodology to determine the reusability of components, including criteria and measurement methods.
- Investigate what wear occurs and how it can be measured, and what sensors and data are needed for condition monitoring.
- Assessing which data is already available within systems and how it can be utilized for condition monitoring.
- Setting up test and validation procedures for returned systems or components, including test runs upon intake and comparison of initial performance with the current state.
- Making estimates of remaining lifespan and reliability of components.
- Drafting a case study or demonstration and practical guidelines for the application of the developed methodology.
