Description
You work on issues related to the emission of substances into the air, primarily originating from industry. You act as a substantive sparring partner for colleagues and support permitting, supervision, and policy development with specialist advice. Your duties include assessing studies, establishing permit requirements, and advising competent authorities.
Job requirements
- Completed higher vocational or university education.
- Several years of relevant work experience.
- You are good at working on projects and collaborating; you are curious, proactive, and critical.
- Good communication skills and political sensitivity, including a willingness to engage in dialogue with companies.
- Preferably completed the Air Pollution, Air Quality and Deposition (VVM) and PAOTM training courses, or willing to complete them.
- Preferably knowledge of the (process) industry, chemical substances, emission reduction techniques, relevant European and national legislation, and of physical and chemical atmospheric processes.
Tasks
- Assessing applications from new or changing businesses, including the review of air quality studies and odor reports.
- Assessing whether the best available techniques are applied and establishing emission limit values and monitoring obligations in permits.
- Conducting distribution studies and updating outdated permits in response to new insights or tightened legislation and regulations.
- Supporting regulators by assessing measurement reports and results from continuous measurement systems.
- Supervise on-site measurements and verify whether companies comply with measurement obligations and applicable emission limit values.
- Assessing annual environmental reports and reports, such as avoidance and reduction programmes for substances of very high concern.
- Providing policy advice to competent authorities, for example on environmental plans, in collaboration with other environmental services and knowledge partners.
Working conditions
You will become part of a consultancy team with approximately 35 colleagues, including several colleagues specializing in air. The work atmosphere is informal, with short lines of communication and trust as the foundation. Flexible working hours make working from home combined with office work possible. - Employment contract for one year with the prospect of permanent employment.

Description of the organization
The Environmental Service in this region ensures the application and compliance with environmental laws and regulations through licensing, supervision, enforcement, and specialist advice. The work impacts themes such as nitrogen, energy, air, and noise, and contributes to a safe, clean, and sustainable living environment.
The organization works on behalf of municipalities and the province and collaborates extensively with regional and national partners, such as Public Health Services (GGDs), knowledge institutions, and other environmental services. Collaboration with other northern environmental services and regional partners is also part of the practice.
