As XINTC scales its deployments worldwide, the safe, correct, and efficient use of its electrolyser systems by both end-users and trained service providers becomes increasingly important. Clear, accessible, and TÜV-compliant manuals are essential to ensure that operators with different educational levels, cultural backgrounds, and professional experience can work confidently and safely with the equipment.
At the same time, maintenance partners need structured service documentation to support preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and component replacement in the field. This creates an interesting challenge that goes beyond writing alone: the project also involves analyzing user needs, defining the right level of detail, validating clarity in practice, and developing documentation that is both technically correct and easy to use.
The project
This project focuses on the development a professional documentation of manuals for XINTC's four core system modules:
- Power & Control Module (PCM)
- Gas Production Module (GPM)
- Hydrogen Storage Module (HSM)
- Compression & Purification Module (CPM)
For each module, two complementary manuals will be developed, resulting in a total of eight manuals.
Manual A: End-User Manual
A concise, visual, and accessible guide for a broad audience, covering:
- Safety aspects
- Basic machine operation
- First-level troubleshooting
Manual B: Service Manual
A more detailed manual for trained maintenance partners, covering:
- Safety aspects
- Machine operation
- Regular annual maintenance procedures
- Troubleshooting
- Component replacement
Rather than simply documenting existing information, the project focuses on creating documentation that is technically accurate, intuitive to use, and suitable for different user groups. The manuals should be concise, highly visual, and based on realistic photographs, while complying with professional documentation standards and align with legal and compliance requirements.
Why this project is interesting
This assignment combines engineering, usability, technical communication, and product validation. It is therefore well suited for students who want to combine practical work with an investigative and improvement-oriented approach.
Possible research and development questions within the project include:
- Which documentation principles and communication strategies best support the safe and intuitive use of complex electrolyser systems by different user groups?
- What information structure and visual approach work best for operators versus trained service partners?
- Which validation methods are most suitable for evaluating the usability, clarity, and effectiveness of technical documentation in an operational environment?
- How can a structured documentation strategy contribute to product quality, maintainability, safety, and international scalability throughout the product lifecycle?
This means the project is not limited to execution. Students will be expected to analyze existing information, challenge assumptions, make substantiated choices, test concepts in practice, and improve the manuals based on findings.
What you will be doing
- Talking with lead engineers and other specialists to understand complex systems and operational requirements.
- Working hands-on with the electrolyser system to gather information and capture realistic, high-quality photographs.
- Translating engineering data and technical knowledge into clear visual guides for end-users and service partners.
- Structuring documentation in a way that is logical, safe, and easy to use.
- Testing the manuals on-site and evaluating whether they work effectively in practice.
- Contributing ideas on how technical documentation can be improved, standardized, and scaled across modules.
- Collaborating with fellow students at HBO and WO level as part of a broader project team.
Experience with technical documentation is a plus, but not required. More important are curiosity, initiative, analytical thinking, and the motivation to understand how complex systems can be made usable and safe for people in practice.

Practical setup
The work will be carried out by a minimum of two students, at both HBO and WO level, collaborating closely to deliver the full set of manuals. XINTC will provide access to electrolyser technical knowledge, support in document layout, and guidance on legal and compliance requirements.
Because the manuals will be used in real operational contexts, the project combines desk research, engineering interaction, on-site observation, and practical validation.
