You oversee waste management companies, contributing to a sustainable, safe living environment. You verify that companies comply with applicable environmental laws and regulations and translate technical and administrative matters into clear advice.
Job requirements
- Completed higher professional education.
- At least three years of relevant work experience in the waste sector.
- Current knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and decisions, such as European environmental directives, IPPC regulations, AO/IC for waste processing facilities, environmental management systems, and associated assessment techniques.
- Ability to carefully assess reports and undesirable situations and provide targeted advice.
- Dare to take enforcement action when necessary, with persuasiveness and a respectful, diplomatic approach to offenders.
- Independent, assertive, and mindful of social impact; handling conflicts with a solution-oriented and respectful approach.
Tasks
- Visiting (large) waste companies and checking whether they comply with applicable laws and regulations.
- Monitoring the storage and processing of various waste streams, with attention to soil and groundwater protection and dust emissions.
- Carrying out audits and assessing the organisation of companies from different perspectives.
- Enforcement action when necessary.
- Following up on reports from companies and complaints from residents, including participating in on-call duties.
- Explaining administrative and technical topics in understandable language.
- Conduct administrative oversight based on legislation and assess company-specific documents and reports submitted in response to a permit.
- Conducting risk analyses and translating them into company-specific supervisory plans, including risks, assessment points, and supervisory methods.
- Advising chain partners on (European) transfers of waste materials.
Working conditions
You'll be part of the Specialist Supervision team, which consists of 24 professionals. The work atmosphere is informal, with short lines of communication and mutual support.
There is flexibility in working hours and options to work from home, with office attendance required at least two days a week.
The organisation invests in development and offers plenty of opportunities to deepen and further develop expertise.
In addition, the following is offered: a one-year employment contract with the prospect of permanent employment; and an Individual Choice Budget (IKB) of 17,05% of the gross salary, which can be used for things like extra vacation days, purchasing a bicycle, or exchanging commuting mileage.
Description of the organisation
The Environmental Service ensures the application and compliance with environmental laws and regulations in the region by issuing permits, monitoring and enforcement, and providing specialist advice.
The work impacts societal themes such as nitrogen, energy, air quality, noise, and limiting emissions of substances of very high concern. Examples of issues include the construction of wind turbines, the use of hydrogen, and the nitrogen issue.
Work is carried out on behalf of Groningen municipalities and the province of Groningen, often in collaboration with regional and national partners. The organisation is continuously developing and employs over 250 professionals.
Recruitment and collaboration involve collaboration with FUMO and regional environmental services, among others.
