Description
As an Environmental Permit Officer, you are responsible for assessing, granting, and enforcing environmental permits regarding environmental aspects. You ensure a balance between economic activities and environmental protection and support businesses, private individuals, and government agencies in complying with environmental laws and regulations.
Job requirements
- HBO or WO degree in a relevant field, such as environmental science, environmental technology, chemistry, or similar.
- Knowledge of environmental legislation and regulations, such as the Environmental Management Act, the Environment and Planning Act, and relevant European directives.
- Experience in assessing and granting environmental permits, preferably within a government agency or environmental service.
- Analytical ability to understand complex environmental and legal issues and apply them practically.
- Good communication skills for clearly explaining laws and regulations and providing advice to various target groups.
- Solution-oriented thinking and the ability to weigh environmental interests against economic activities.
- Team player with a proactive attitude and the ability to collaborate within multidisciplinary teams.
Tasks
- Analyzing and assessing applications for environmental permits, such as for industrial activities, waste processing, water discharges, and air pollution.
- Ensuring that applications comply with legal requirements, including the Environmental Management Act and the Environment and Planning Act.
- Drafting and issuing environmental and spatial planning permits, taking into account technical environmental and legal aspects.
- Advising companies and citizens on environmental laws and regulations and the steps for obtaining a permit.
- Coordinating and collaborating with internal departments and external agencies, such as spatial planning, construction, legal affairs, water boards, and environmental services.
- Assessment of potential environmental impacts, including impacts on air quality, noise, soil and water quality, and flora and fauna.
- Collaborate with enforcement agencies for supervision and enforcement and take action in the event of violations or complaints.
- Monitoring and applying developments in environmental legislation when assessing applications.
- Contribute to the development and updating of local and regional environmental policy and permitting processes.
- Maintaining contact with stakeholders, such as local residents, businesses, interest groups, and other government bodies.
