Lead Engineer Secondary 1
Responsible for the design, testing, and control of secondary systems in high-voltage substations.
Requirement: completed HBO/WO degree in electrical engineering and 5–10 years of relevant experience.
Works in a multidisciplinary High Voltage Engineering team on new construction and renovation projects.
Description
You work within the High Voltage department of the Engineering domain and are responsible for the secondary systems in high-voltage substations.
As Lead Secondary Engineer, you are involved in the design, implementation, and optimization of secondary systems during new construction, expansion, and renovation of high-voltage infrastructure.
You focus on control, safety, signaling, and measurement technology, and ensure the safe and reliable operation of the installations.
Job requirements
- Completed HBO or WO education in Electrical Engineering, Energy Technology, or Industrial Automation.
- 5–10 years of relevant experience in the design, implementation or management of high-voltage installations or complex technical infrastructures.
- Extensive experience in designing protection schemes, local control and signaling, and DC auxiliary systems.
- Experience with ELCAD, Relatics, and BIM is a plus.
- Familiarity with TenneT and ELIA standards, NEN-EN-IEC 61936, NEN 3840, NEN 3140, and Systems Engineering.
- Good command of the Dutch and English language in word and writing.
- Experience with and affinity for coaching and training colleagues; ability to manage a discipline team.
- Commercial drive, organisational skills, and results orientation.
- Willingness to travel and, if necessary, be away from home for extended periods of time.

Tasks
- Translating customer inquiries and requirements into safe and reliable technical designs for secondary systems.
- Coordinating test and validation activities within applicable standards and specifications.
- Advising on and supervising the design of secondary installations, including protection schemes, local control, signaling, and DC auxiliary systems.
- External coordination with clients and explaining design choices.
- Drawing up project plans and filling in project resources.
- Carrying out sales activities with existing and new clients; contributing to quotations and preparing time estimates.
- Acting as project manager for small, secondary-dominated projects.
- Documenting, reporting, and communicating project developments; monitoring safety, quality, scope, budget, and planning.
- Consult with stakeholders and act as a contact person from the Secondary team.
- Managing and supervising engineers and designers; organizing checks and approving designs.
- Coaching and training new and less experienced colleagues.
- Participate in multidisciplinary technical teams and apply Systems Engineering methodology.
- Supervising work using CAD systems such as ELCAD and performing calculations, for example cable dimensioning.
- Promoting Safety by Design and compliance with relevant standards and safety regulations.
