Climate adaptation advisor who integrates climate adaptation into municipal policymaking and implementation, acting as a connecting link between policy, implementation, and external partners, and addresses both strategic and practical issues.
Job requirements
- Completed education at least at HBO level, preferably in Climate and Environmental Sciences, Sustainability, or Environmental Science.
- Recent experience in drafting and implementing implementation agendas and climate adaptation projects within a municipal organisation.
- Demonstrable experience integrating climate adaptation into policy and implementation, including experience with applying for and accounting for subsidies.
- Experience in the past five years as a climate adaptation advisor within a municipal organisation.
- Knowledge of and experience with We4Climate; experience with stress tests or heat maps for climate adaptation.
- Experience with policy or implementation regarding biodiversity, green management, or water management, and with stimulating or guiding resident initiatives or greening projects.
- Demonstrable experience with project management for campaigns or municipal projects.
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written), administrative and political sensitivity, networking skills, and the ability to make complex issues understandable.
- Proactive, solution-oriented attitude; ability to work independently and take initiative within an administrative organisation.
Tasks
- Embedding climate adaptation in municipal policy and instruments, such as JOR/HIOR and frameworks for the design and management of public space.
- Drafting, revising, and implementing implementation agendas and action plans to make the climate adaptation strategy concrete.
- Establishing frameworks for climate adaptation and applying them as assessment criteria for new developments and spatial interventions.
- Contribute to the policy and implementation of the Green and Sustainable Construction Program.
- Translating themes such as heat, flooding, drought, and biodiversity into concrete measures and projects.
- Providing early advice on spatial developments and redesigns to make projects climate-adaptive.
- Identifying bottlenecks in public spaces and collaborating with management and project teams on solutions.
- Project management for campaigns and municipal policy, for example the National Tile Removal Championship and municipal fisheries policy.
- Updating and supplementing existing stress tests in preparation for climate change.
- Strengthening regional cooperation through We4Climate and contributing to knowledge sharing with other municipalities and regional partners.
- Encouraging and supporting initiatives by residents and organisations; acting as a point of contact for residents' inquiries.
- Collaborating with internal teams such as public space management, spatial development, sustainability, and communication to structurally embed climate adaptation.
- Applying for, managing, and accounting for subsidies, with a focus on the provincial subsidy for the Integrated Heat Action Plan.
- Contribute to communication with residents regarding projects and residents' initiatives.
- Active commitment to the greening of public grounds, schools, and other municipal locations.
