Lead Engineer Primary High
Leads the design and optimization of primary high-voltage components within multidisciplinary projects in high-voltage technology.
Responsible for translating client requirements into safe and reliable basic and detailed designs.
Requirements: Bachelor's or Master's degree in a technical field and 5–10 years of relevant experience with high-voltage installations.
Description
The position involves leading the primary activities within the High Voltage department of the Engineering domain. You are responsible for the design and optimization of primary components of high-voltage installations and coordinate activities within multidisciplinary projects.
Job requirements
Required education, experience, and competencies:
- At least a completed higher professional or university degree, for example in Electrical Engineering, Energy Technology, Civil Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
- 5–10 years of relevant experience in the design, implementation or management of high-voltage installations or complex technical infrastructures.
- In-depth knowledge of high-voltage substations, transformers, GIS installations, cable connections, or similar components.
- Experience with or knowledge of Microstation, Revit, Relatics, and BIM is a plus.
- Familiarity with standards such as TenneT/ELIA, NEN-EN-IEC 61936, NEN 3840, NEN 3140, and Systems Engineering.
- Good command of Dutch and English, both written and spoken.
- Experience with and affinity for coaching and training colleagues and managing a discipline team.
- Commercial drive and experience in setting project goals and monitoring planning, scope, and quality.
- Willingness to travel and, if necessary, be away from home for extended periods.

Tasks
Your duties include the technical leadership and coordination of primary designs within multidisciplinary projects.
- Translating client requests and requirements into safe and reliable basic and detailed designs.
- Coordinating test and validation activities within applicable standards and specifications.
- Advise on the design of primary components and explain external coordination with customers.
- Drawing up project schedules and allocating resources.
- Performing project management tasks for small projects with a focus on primary.
- Contributing to quotations and preparing time estimates for feasibility studies and design-build projects.
- Documenting, reporting and communicating project developments.
- Monitoring the safety, quality, scope, budget and planning of the Primary team.
- Consult with various stakeholders and ensure smooth communication with the project manager, technical manager, and client contacts.
- Managing and supervising engineers and designers; approving designs from junior/mid-level engineers and external parties.
- Participation in multidisciplinary technical teams (e.g. civil/structural, secondary, telecommunications, cables, lines & masts, BIM, GIS).
- Answering complex questions within feasibility studies, basic and detailed designs, 3D modeling, and technical drawings.
- Supervising network calculations, short-circuit current calculations and dimensioning of components.
- Supervising work using CAD systems such as MicroStation and Revit and acting as a contact person during meetings with network operators and contractors.
- Organizing checks and approvals of designs and translating project goals into technical requirements, specifications, and design criteria.
- Applying Systems Engineering methodology and promoting Safety by Design and compliance with Life Saving Rules.
