Description

As a Junior Process Operator, you will work in a pilot plant and be jointly responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable execution of new biotechnological processes in which bacteria produce PHA from organic waste streams. You will work at the intersection of process management, biotechnology, and sustainability, and collaborate closely with the Process Operator. Location: Delfzijl (Farmsum).

Job requirements

  • Completed higher professional education in process technology, biotechnology, chemical technology, or environmental technology.
  • Work experience as a process operator is a plus, but not required for the junior position.
  • Experience with bioreactors (fermentation processes) or (bio)chemical installations is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of process automation (e.g. DCS/SCADA) and data recording systems.
  • Experience with water quality analyses and the ability to interpret results is an advantage.
  • Hands-on mentality, precise working method, and an eye for detail with a strong focus on safety and quality.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and control problems and perform basic maintenance.
  • Eagerness to learn, drive for process improvements, and the ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong communication skills, teamwork skills, and a can-do mentality.

Tasks

  • Operating, monitoring, and adjusting installations for biological production (fermentation), separation, and purification of PHA, such as bioreactors, decanter centrifuges, and dryers.
  • Prepare, execute, and follow up test runs according to established protocols and safety guidelines.
  • Setting and adjusting process parameters (e.g. temperature, pH, aeration, feed dosing).
  • Accurately record process data, observations, and deviations in the process logbook and data/analysis sheets.
  • Performing simple water analyses for process monitoring (e.g. HACH cuvette tests: COD/COD, nitrogen, phosphate, solids).
  • Performing (preventive) maintenance, cleaning, and calibration of equipment; promptly identifying and hands-on resolving malfunctions and deviations, and reporting thereof.
  • Collaborating with process engineers and researchers in the execution of pilot plans and reporting results and findings.
  • Thinking about improvements in process safety, efficiency and reproducibility.
  • Monitoring compliance with safety and production standards at the chemical park.
  • Assist in training and guiding (new) operators and collaborate with operators from other pilot facilities.

Working conditions

  • Start in the day shift, with the possibility to also perform process control outside the day shift (on a rotating basis), including 2-shift work.
  • Opportunity to take courses and/or training if needed.
  • The demo installation is running in preparation for the construction of a full-scale plant; operations may be able to continue after completion.
