The activities working group organizes excursions, workshops, and lectures on nature and sustainability, accessible to both members and non-members. The target audience is usually adults; sometimes activities are suitable for families or people with disabilities. New activities, such as movie nights, bike rides, mindful walks, or litter clean-up campaigns, are welcome. Sita Bakker is the coordinator of the working group; Esther Dijkstra is temporarily stepping down from organizing but can assist with onboarding and advice.

Job requirements

  • A connection with and interest in nature, and enthusiasm for organizing activities.
  • Independence in carrying out tasks, in consultation with the coordinator.
  • Some experience or proficiency with editing in Word and processing digital photos is helpful.
  • IVN membership is not required.
  • A Certificate of Conduct is not required.

Tasks

  • Organizing excursions, workshops, and lectures in the field of nature and sustainability.
  • Recruiting and arranging speakers or tour leaders and sometimes a suitable venue.
  • Drafting persuasive copy and finding suitable photos for the website, annual program guide, newsletter, and social media.
  • Optionally create and distribute posters at suitable locations.
  • Emailing invitations to relevant organizations and arranging registrations; coordinating carpooling if relevant.
  • Attend the activity and meet participants.
  • Creating or having a (photo) report made for publication in a newsletter or on social media.
  • Pass on the final number of participants to the secretary.
  • Use the script and tips from department members, the coordinator, or board members when preparing activities.

Working conditions

Work throughout the entire municipality of Leeuwarden; availability and hours by mutual agreement, variable frequency. Work can largely be arranged from your own PC/laptop at times that suit you.

  • Consultation moments and contact moments with other department volunteers.
  • Script with tips, sample texts, and sample posters.
  • Support from the national IVN, including the exchange of ideas, materials, and interest groups on the intranet.
  • Free courses for volunteers, both online and in the province.
  • Reimbursement for travel and any other costs; other expense allowance available.
  • No regular volunteer allowance, but an annual gift voucher from the branch board on the national Volunteer Day.
  • Free participation in the annual provincial nature volunteer day Grien Goud.
  • Training for volunteers is offered.
  • ANBI status of the organization.
