Internship/graduation project: research, design, and development of a smart feedback system for buildings.
Key tasks: researching user feedback, designing hardware and embedded software, and building a prototype.
Context: sensor data measures differently than personal perception of the indoor climate.
Description
Nowadays, smart buildings accurately measure temperature, humidity, and CO2 levels, but that data does not always tell the whole story. What a sensor measures does not always correspond to how people experience the indoor climate. In this internship or graduation project, you will research, design, and develop a smart feedback system for buildings that allows users to intuitively provide feedback on their personal comfort experience.
Tasks
During the assignment, you will conduct research, design the device, and develop both hardware and software. Concrete activities and deliverables include:
- Investigating effective feedback and interaction methods.
- Applying user experience, ergonomics, and behavioral psychology in the design.
- Designing the physical form of the device.
- Selecting suitable hardware, such as sensors and displays.
- Developing embedded software and data processing.
- Building a working prototype (Proof of Concept).
- Analyzing existing feedback systems and user needs.
- Creating conceptual designs, wireframes, or 3D visualizations.
- Creating a technical design for hardware and software.
- Developing a system for collecting and analyzing user feedback.
- Writing an advisory report for further implementation within building management solutions.
