PHD Purification
Description
PhD research within the Purifiy project on the purification of pyrolysis products from difficult-to-recycle plastic waste. The research focuses on identifying and removing harmful contaminants in the pyrolysis chain, using analytical studies, laboratory and pilot trials, and technology evaluation.
Job requirements
- A (nearly) completed relevant Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a similar field.
- Demonstrable research background, for example through substantial Master's research, research assistantship, or academic publications/presentations.
- Strong methodological and analytical skills, experience with qualitative and/or quantitative methods, and familiarity with common data analysis tools.
- Ability to work both independently and in multidisciplinary teams, show initiative, and manage priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent command of the English language, both spoken and written; willingness to contribute to teaching, mentoring, or outreach is a plus.
Tasks
- Investigating the structure and behavior of contaminants during pyrolysis using advanced analytical techniques.
- Studying structure-property relationships of contaminants to support the selection of purification technologies.
- Developing and evaluating technologies for the removal of contaminants in situ during pyrolysis and ex situ from vapor and liquid streams.
- Conducting laboratory and pilot-scale trials and optimizing various purification methods.
- Detailed analytical characterization and technical evaluation of purification solutions.
Working conditions
- Year-end bonus of 8,3% and a holiday allowance of 8%.
- Possibility to work more or fewer hours in exchange for more or fewer free hours, respectively, depending on the agreements within the faculty.

- Temporary appointment of 1,0 FTE for four years; the first year serves as an initial period, after which an extension for the remaining three years follows upon a positive Performance and Development Review.
