Postdoc to detect cognitive strategies in single-trial EEG using HMP and transformer models.
Tasks include developing HMP protocols, labeling data, and decoding EEG into cognitive event sequences.
Requires EEG or MEG experience, machine learning and Python skills, and collaboration with Utrecht University.
Description
Postdoc to detect cognitive strategies in single-trial EEG data, coordinating and carrying out a project with PIs Jelmer Borst and Leendert van Maanen. The work uses the HMP method and transformer models to discover and predict sequences of cognitive operations, aiming to map strategy differences between novices and experts.
Job requirements
- Interest in human cognition.
- Experience with neural data, preferably EEG or MEG.
- Experience with machine learning models for the classification or decoding of neural data.
- Programming skills, particularly in Python.
Tasks
- Coordinate and execute the project in collaboration with the two principal investigators.
- Develop a standard HMP analysis protocol and use it to analyze and label existing EEG data.
- Develop EEG-to-sequence classification to decode the continuous EEG signal into a series of cognitive event labels.
- Apply the methods to data on expertise development to track strategy use and learning trajectories.
Working conditions
- Initial appointment of 1 year with possible extension to a total of 2 years.
- Availability as a placement between 0,8 and 1,0 FTE.
- Possibility of flexible working hours and exchanging more or fewer working hours for more or fewer free hours, respectively.
