Description of the organization
The Groningen Mining Damage Institute (IMG) is the independent administrative body that handles damage caused by gas extraction in the Groningen field and the Norg and Grijpskerk gas storage facilities. The IMG is deeply rooted in Groningen and Drenthe society and handles damage mildly, humanely, easily, and expertly.
It is the task of the IMG to make independent decisions on applications for compensation, including physical damage to homes and buildings, intangible damage, and the depreciation of homes and commercial properties. The IMG is also responsible for securing acutely unsafe situations and, in the case of physical damage, emphasizes restoration to prevent consequential damage.
The Compensation Department makes decisions on requests for compensation and has approximately 250 employees. This department is divided into teams such as Regular Physical Damage, Complex Physical Damage, Objections, and Value Reduction & Non-material Damage. The teams assess opinions, handle notices of objection, and ensure interaction with applicants throughout the application process.
The IMG works with care for people who suffer damage from gas extraction: showing understanding, alleviating concerns, providing support, and offering aftercare. The office is located in Groningen at Cascadeplein, right next to the central station.
