Industrial engineering and management (Technical Business Administration)
IEM: this is a true engineering degree program, in which you learn to translate new industrial techniques into practical solutions, such as more sustainable production processes or new products.
Description
Content of the training
In this international Bachelor's program in Industrial Engineering and Management (Technische Bedrijfskunde in Dutch), you'll learn to analyze problems and develop, design, and implement solutions. You'll be trained primarily as an industrial engineer, and you'll learn to assess the practical application of your solutions in business.
After all, a technical solution is only applicable if its feasibility has been thoroughly tested. Renewable energy comes in many forms, such as wind, solar, biomass, applied directly, or with electricity or hydrogen as an energy carrier. How can we best apply renewable energy? What is the most efficient, and what are the costs and societal integration? These kinds of questions will arise during your education and further career.
Form of the training
The IEM program consists of two-thirds science subjects and one-third business subjects. In the first year, you'll learn the basics of programming and also learn how to model and simulate for the design of products and production processes. You'll also delve into the chemical and physical aspects of materials and molecules. The business and management courses provide an introduction to subjects such as industrial marketing and management accounting.
In addition to the content-based courses, you will receive study-related and personal support from experienced student coaches in the so-called learning communities.
In the second semester of your second year, you'll choose a track: Sustainable Process Engineering or Production Technology and Logistics. You'll complete your bachelor's degree with a final project in which you solve a specific technical problem for a company.
Practical information
- In Groningen, you have the opportunity to create the perfect combination of technology and business administration. This allows you to combine technical solutions with an entrepreneurial spirit! That's why a bachelor's degree from Groningen opens up many opportunities for the future.
- Of all the Industrial Engineering and Management programs in the Netherlands, the one in Groningen is the most technical: two-thirds of your time is spent on technology and science subjects; one-third on business subjects.
- Our faculty has two Nobel Prize winners: the Nobel Prize for Chemistry for Ben Feringa in 2016 and the Nobel Prize for Physics for Frits Zernike.
