Have you ever considered what it takes to make this all work? As a spatial development professional, you shape the Netherlands.
Description
Content of the training
During the higher professional education program in Spatial Development, you will be trained as a specialist in spatial development and urban design. In the first year, you will be introduced to all aspects of spatial development through workshops. For example, you will develop an urban development plan, design a road redesign based on a traffic analysis, and create a neighborhood renewal plan based on research you conduct yourself. In the second year, you will develop a plan for a medium-sized city and complete an internship at a municipality or consultancy firm. In the third year, you will choose between the projects Urban Design, Mobility, or General. You will also take a minor of your choice during this year. You will complete the Spatial Development program with an internship and demonstrate your ability to independently devise solutions to real-world problems.
Form of the training (program)
In the first year In workshops you will become acquainted with all aspects within the field of mobility and space:
- Atelier Tiny Village
- Atelier Public Space
- Atelier New District Identity
- Multi-disciplinary project
- Free choice
In the second year You will participate in the "Future-Proof City" workshop. Based on a policy framework, principles, and the current situation, you will develop a comprehensive plan for all modes of transport and the spatial planning for a medium-sized city. You will present the results to the municipality. Afterward, you will complete an internship at a municipality or consultancy firm.
Training
You will follow the courses: Governance and policy, law, traffic calculations, visualization techniques (3D) and government communication.
In the third year You'll choose between the Mobility and Urban Design specializations. You'll delve deeper into your chosen specialization and work on practical assignments. As a student, you'll collaborate closely with the client. Account management and project management are particularly important here. In the second half of the year, you'll choose a minor.
Minor
You choose a minor from the programme, a minor from outside the programme or from outside NHL Stenden.
In fourth and final year You'll be interning at a consultancy or government agency. You'll participate in daily activities and also conduct research for your internship company.
To graduate
During your graduation project, you'll demonstrate that you're ready for the real world as a budding expert in mobility and spatial planning. You'll independently conduct specialized research for an external client.
Practical information
To be admitted to the Bachelor of Spatial Development program, you need one of the following diplomas: HAVO, VWO, MBO4
