Special Professor of Business Ethics and Ecological Sustainability from a Humanist Perspective, focused on research and education with societal impact.
Tasks
- Developing and providing education on business ethics and ecological sustainability from a humanist perspective, with an emphasis on transdisciplinarity and innovation.
- Offering an elective course for Master's students, accessible to students from various faculties and external interested parties.
- Conducting research that aligns with major societal challenges and focuses on the role of companies in ecological sustainability.
- Possible research themes: corporate responsibility for ecological sustainability; role of stakeholders such as shareholders and consumers; ethical aspects of sustainable business; ecological justice; human rights and climate; biodiversity and finance.
- Actively contribute to the public discussion on corporate responsibility and sustainability issues to increase societal impact.
- Collaborate within the Faculty of Philosophy, the Faculty of Economics & Business and the interfaculty Center for Philosophy, Politics, and Economics.
Working conditions
Five-year appointment with the possibility of reappointment. The position is unpaid; the Socrates Foundation provides an annual expense allowance to support the effort.
The organization offers an 8,3% year-end bonus and an 8% holiday allowance. There are extensive opportunities for personal and professional development.

Description of the organization
The University of Groningen (RUG) is a university with a strong focus on interdisciplinary research, education, and societal participation.
The Faculty of Philosophy is small-scale, with a close-knit academic community, and works extensively in interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary collaborations. The faculty is organized into three departments: Theoretical Philosophy, History of Philosophy and Ethics, and Social and Political Philosophy.
As an adjunct professor, you will be embedded within the Department of Ethics, Social and Political Philosophy, join the Business Ethics & Corporate Sustainability section of Economics & Business, and collaborate with the Centre for Philosophy, Politics, and Economics.
The Socrates Foundation promotes the exchange of ideas on fundamental social and cultural issues from the perspective of modern humanism and maintains humanist endowed chairs at universities.
