Description
As an Energy System Strategy Advisor, you have a direct influence on the direction of the energy transition and connect the long-term vision with current decision-making. You focus your expertise on making the industry more sustainable and operate at the intersection of industry, government, and the energy system. You translate technical and policy insights into strategic advice regarding the future energy system and the necessary infrastructure. The base location is Groningen or The Hague, depending on your place of residence; willingness to travel and hybrid working are part of the role.
Job requirements
- HBO or WO degree, preferably in science subjects.
- For HBO: approximately 10 years of relevant experience; for WO: approximately 5–8 years of relevant experience. The experience may have been gained in various positions.
- Curious and analytical, with the ability to understand technically and commercially desirable sustainability options.
- A fully-fledged discussion partner for the industry regarding energy and raw materials issues and sustainability options.
- Demonstrable experience advising at a strategic or executive level.
- Strong networking skills; easily build formal and informal networks, internally and externally.
- Strong interest in the energy transition and knowledge of the energy system (gas, electricity, heat).
- Proactive, able to exert tactical influence, with good empathy and steadfastness.
- Clear and pleasant communication style, enthusiasm, drive, humor, and the ability to put things into perspective.
Tasks
- Holding discussions with industry (clusters) about their sustainability plans.
- Contributing knowledge regarding system integration and the deployment of hydrogen, green gas, heat, and CO₂ solutions.
- Translating gathered insights, including those from the Data Safehouse, into strategic insight for energy system development and the necessary infrastructure.
- Actively participate in national programs such as the National Industrial Sustainability Program (NPVI) and prepare administrative decision-making.
- Collaborating with government authorities and grid operators to support joint decision-making and implementation.
- Acting as a visible ambassador for the role of gaseous energy carriers and CCS, and creating support among governments, network operators, industry, and interest groups.
- Initiating and strengthening collaborations with industry and trade associations and providing substantive input for government consultations.
- Representing Gasunie in (inter)sectoral working groups, such as within Netbeheer Nederland.
- Identifying barriers to the energy transition and contributing to solutions.
- Building and strategically leveraging a robust internal and external network; acting as an industry knowledge holder and contributing to awareness.
Working conditions
- Fixed 13th and 14th month (holiday allowance).
- Fixed-term contract with the prospect of a permanent contract.

The Energy System Strategy department analyzes the long-term demand for energy carriers and the necessary infrastructure, and provides expertise on the entire energy system (methane, CO₂, hydrogen, heat, electricity) and their interactions to contribute to a more sustainable energy system.
