Location: Appingedam, NL. You work at the heart of the organization and are given the space to improve, build and look ahead. As Financial Controller you are responsible for reliable financial and sustainability reports and make sharp analyses that support management in decision-making. You monitor financial processes, optimize internal controls where possible and ensure timely monthly and annual closings. You are part of a committed team in which cooperation, quality and responsibility are central, with primary focus on finance & accounting, internal control, risk & compliance, and sustainability reporting.

• Completed college or university education in Finance, Accounting, Business Economics or a similar field.
• Several years of relevant work experience in accountancy, production or a similar financial position.
• Strong knowledge of financial administration, accounting and closing processes.
• Experience with or demonstrable interest in sustainability and ESG reporting; experience is an advantage.
• Knowledge of internal control, compliance and risk management.
• Good knowledge of Excel; experience with ERP systems and Power BI is an advantage.
• Accurate, independent and structured working style, with critical and analytical attitude.
• Good communication skills and ability to work effectively with various stakeholders.

• Perform monthly, quarterly and year-end closings, including preparation of balance sheet specifications, journal entries and financial analyses.
• Prepare financial reports and sharp analyses to support management decision-making.
• Ensure correct processing of ledger and subledgers, fixed assets and suspense accounts.
• Process and audit intercompany transactions and perform reconciliations between entities.
• Support cost price calculations, project administration and progress reporting.
• Prepare VAT returns and contribute to other tax reports.
• Monitor internal controls, compliance and risk management; identify deviations, risks and areas for improvement.
• Act as first point of contact for external auditors during interim and year-end audits.
• Actively contribute to process improvements, standardization and further professionalization of the financial organization.
• Coordinate and develop sustainability and ESG reporting.
• Support setting up data models, definitions and internal controls around ESG information.
• Coordinate with Operations, HR, Procurement and Engineering about sustainability data.
• Identify risks and areas for improvement in sustainability, compliance and reporting, and stay informed of CSRD and related legislation.
• Identify, analyse and monitor financial and non-financial risks; maintain and improve the risk and control framework.
• Perform risk analyses and internal controls, support compliance and governance issues, and advise management on mitigating measures.
