Pilot Plant Technician Specialist

Operate a pilot plant for process development, scale-up and implementation of key projects, using process knowledge and operations experience. Serve as an informal resource for less experienced team members, with no direct supervisory responsibilities.

• Either deep skills in this discipline or knowledge of a range of processes, procedures and systems.
• Broad understanding of the job and the ability to apply knowledge and skills to complete assigned tasks.
• Ability to exchange detailed, complicated information with other team members.
• Ability to evaluate analytical or scientific problems in unusual situations and select solutions based on established procedures.
• Capacity to modify work practices and processes to achieve results and improve efficiency.
• Capability to serve as an informal resource on operational, administrative, data organization or coordination tasks for less experienced team members.

• Utilize process knowledge and operations experience to safely and proficiently operate a pilot plant for process development, scale-up and project implementation.
• Schedule, plan and complete operations-related activities, including maintaining pilot plant operation.
• Execute instructions per test plans, maintain run sheets and log data.
• Operate and field-check process equipment; monitor process conditions, equipment and control systems.
• Write Safe Work Permits.
• Perform tasks assigned per the Master Task List (for example: field checks, equipment preparation, sampling).
• Troubleshoot process and maintenance issues; resolve process deviations and problems.
• Participate in Root Cause Investigations.
• Use process knowledge to improve plant performance and operating discipline, including creating and improving job procedures.
• Perform process equipment troubleshooting, minor repairs, improvements and preventative maintenance.
• Support pilot plant turnarounds as appropriate.
• Complete all assigned training per the facility training plan.
