Fully funded 4-year PhD position in the Molecular Biophysics group at the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials. The project aims to reveal how selective cellular transport is achieved by protein-based filters using super-resolution microscopy.
Functie eisen
- MSc degree in biophysics, or in molecular biology, biotechnology/bioengineering, physics (optics), or an equivalent qualification.
- Strong experimental background in microscopy, molecular biophysics/biology, or cell biology.
- Experience with Python programming and cell culture is a strong asset.
- Analytical and creative thinking, high motivation for academic research, and ability to work professionally in an international team.
- Integrative, cooperative personality with excellent communication and social skills.
- Fluent proficiency in English (written and oral).
Taken
- Use STED and other super-resolution microscopy to visualize cellular transport and unravel the role of unstructured proteins as filters.
- Perform mammalian and yeast cell culture and advanced fluorescence live-cell microscopy experiments.
- Develop automated experimental workflows, and perform image and data analysis and scientific programming.
- Collaborate closely with team members in the NWO-funded "Holey trap" consortium, working with groups led by Prof. Patrick Onck, Rifka Vlijm, Liesbeth Veenhoff, and Cees Dekker.
- Work within the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials, contributing to interdisciplinary research in the Faculty of Science and Engineering.
Werkomstandigheden
- Contract structure: 1 year + 3 years (promovendus).
- End-of-year bonus and holiday allowance: 8.3% end-of-year bonus and 8% holiday allowance.
