The Faculty of Science and Engineering has a vacancy for a research technician at the Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials. The institute conducts research into fundamental properties of functional materials and devices, using techniques such as optical spectroscopy to characterize novel functional materials. The position is a technical supporting function in an educational and research environment within the Optical Condensed Matter Physics and Optical Spectroscopy of Functional Nanosystems groups.
Functie eisen
- Higher-professional or academic (or equivalent) background in laser spectroscopy, microscopy, or laser physics.
- Hands-on experience working with lasers, ideally including femtosecond laser systems, and with spectroscopy setups.
- Experience with automated data acquisition and analysis.
- Programming skills in Python, or willingness to learn Python.
- Proficiency in Dutch and English, both written and spoken.
- Readiness to cooperate with other personnel in the Optical Spectroscopy groups and the Zernike Institute.
- Willingness to keep up with developments in the field and broaden knowledge as needed.
- High degree of independence in organizing multiple tasks.
Taken
- Maintain scientific laser systems and spectroscopic and microscopic equipment for the Optical Condensed Matter Physics and Optical Spectroscopy of Functional Nanosystems groups.
- Perform daily non-scientific tasks, such as ordering parts and goods for laboratory work.
- Cooperate with other technical personnel by sharing expertise and supporting other groups in lasers and laser applications.
- Assist in the design of laser-based experimental setups and perform spectroscopic and microscopic experiments.
- Serve as Laser Safety Officer responsible for safe laser operations, in close cooperation with other Laser Safety Officers and supervisors.
- Participate in educational duties and instruct students in safe laser operation.
Werkomstandigheden
Employment conditions follow the collective labour agreement for Dutch universities. The position is offered as a temporary, full-time appointment for one year with the possibility of extension to a contract for an indefinite period, subject to satisfactory performance and business circumstances.
