Omschrijving
The postdoctoral researcher will investigate causes of poor prediction and forecasting of individual fertility and develop ways to improve them. The position is embedded in the Department of Sociology and the Interuniversity Center of Social Science Theory and Methodology (ICS).
Functie eisen
- PhD (or close to completion) in Family Sociology and/or Computational Social Sciences.
- Strong publication record commensurate with career stage.
- Strong scientific writing and reporting skills.
- Substantial experience with Python and R.
- Substantial experience with machine learning techniques.
- Experience with the PreFer data challenge.
- Experience working with Dutch register data.
- Ability to identify opportunities for collaboration and impact.
Taken
- Contribute to the project "Understanding fertility outcomes by quantifying the (un)predictable", investigating the results and implications of the PreFer data challenge.
- Contribute to the project "Forecasting Fertility with Foundational Models" by applying foundation models to forecasts using Dutch register data.
- Conduct independent, high-quality research on the limits of predicting fertility.
- Share knowledge through scientific publications (peer-reviewed journals) and non-scientific outputs (policy briefs, outreach materials).
- Present results at conferences, workshops, and stakeholder events.
- Engage in educational activities that contribute to professional growth within the project and the Department of Sociology.
- Participate in biweekly Families, Lifecourse and AGeing research cluster meetings.
Werkomstandigheden
- End-of-year bonus of 8.3% and a holiday allowance of 8%.
