Postdoc Sustainable Znal

A three-year postdoctoral researcher position in the Advanced Production Engineering research group at the Engineering and Technology Institute Groningen, Faculty of Science and Engineering, focused on the development of sustainable ZnAlMg-X alloy coatings for green steel applications. The appointment aims to investigate the impact of using green steel as a substrate and to improve coating performance in terms of corrosion resistance, cracking resistance, applicability, and removability for recycling. ZnAlMg-coated steel is important for automotive components, building components, domestic appliances, and electrical goods; however, these coatings often show reduced formability and cracking resistance compared to GI galvanized steel, and their performance on green steel is currently unclear.

• PhD degree in Materials Science and Engineering or a closely related discipline
• Strong background in metallurgy, galvanization, and corrosion science is a clear advantage
• Excellent academic record and strong expertise in materials characterization and coating technology
• Independent and creative mindset combined with ability to work collaboratively
• Excellent English communication skills, both written and oral

• Design and develop ZnAlMg-X alloy coatings tailored for green steel substrates
• Study interface adhesion and formability of hot-dipped ZnAlMg-X coatings on green steel
• Investigate corrosion resistance of ZnAlMg-X alloy coatings
• Explore removability of the coatings for recycling purposes

Position duration: offered for one year in the first instance, with a possible extension of two years.
